Can’t teach an old dog new tricks…

Technically I’m not that old yet (Still feel like a 20 year old) but in dog years…well let’s not work it out!
The process of setting up and getting going with If I Knew You Were Coming has been hard on my brain, I’ve learnt so much new stuff, and I’m only just at the beginning! I thought I had a fairly good knowledge of computers, well I have my European Computer Driving License (Yes that is a real thing!) until we started our business.
Chris on the other hand has studied and worked in the computer world since he was at university, and it is him who is trying to keep me up to date with technology…
A training session usually looks like this:
Kids in bed, Chris, me and the laptop and a couple of glasses of wine.
And a training session usually goes like this:
Chris: Explains the technology
Me: I don’t understand
Chris: Explains again
Me: Still don’t understand, I don’t want to know, you do it (Toddler strop)
Me: (In timeout)
Me: Ok, show me again
Chris: Explains again
Me: Got it, ish!

Seriously though, he has taught me about Facebook for business, which I didn’t even know existed, Pinterest, how to build and edit a website (don’t ask me to do it from scratch, and he has to log in for me) and Search Engine Optimisation (Well I understand the term now, but he takes care of that!) to name but a few.
I love working on our photography, we currently photograph our products in our conservatory, through the day to get maximum sunlight, with 2 children trying to get our attention! Or in borrowed gardens (Summer Selection photographs) or borrowed houses (for the video we put together see below)
However, my expertise definitely lies with the development of new recipes and flavour combinations! I love creating new muffins and cookies for our baking kits which I know our customers will love as much as I do!

new beginnings

Well, here goes for my first ever blog…
I’m Katie the co-founder of If I Knew You Were Coming. We are a new business providing baking kits for Muffins and Cookies. All you need to add are the wet ingredients…butter / oil / milk etc.
I thought I would take my first blog as an opportunity to explain a little about the business and where the idea came from.
My husband Chris and I are both passionate about food and have tried a couple of savoury food subscriptions, where you get some of the herbs / spices to create really yummy meals. One long drive home from Weston Super Mare, Chris and I got talking about business ideas, as I was due to go back to work following maternity leave for my second daughter. I’ll be honest…I didn’t relish the idea of going back as I wanted to spend more time with my girls, so we had a 5 hour brain storm session on what I could do from home, and the idea of a baking subscription was born. We have since developed this into not just subscriptions, but also one off baking kits.
The subscriptions work by paying a one off fee and then for the next 3 months you will receive a kit which contains a recipe card and all of the dry ingredients you will need to bake really delicious, really simple bakes at home. We currently have 3 subscriptions…Champion Cookies, with 3 different cookie recipes, Marvellous Muffins, with 3 different muffin recipes and Celebrate Summer, with a mix of 3 muffin / cookie recipes. All of the kits are in boxes that will fit perfectly through your letterbox, so no need to worry that you won’t be in to receive the delivery.
We also offer each of the recipes within the subscriptions as one off purchases. The subscriptions and the one off kits make really tasty gifts for people who love to bake, but don’t have a lot of time, or don’t have all of the store cupboard ingredients you need.
We make it nice and simple, we weigh everything perfectly and give you a short shopping list, all you have to do is put it all together and bake!
I have worked hard to make sure that all of the recipes we send out are quick to do and really yummy! All of the recipes we have on offer have been tried and tested numerous times and funnily enough, I never run out of willing taste testers!
